About this Course - CELTA — IH Cairo

Why is CELTA so valuable?

Three out of four English language teaching jobs require a CELTA qualification*, making this course the gold standard if you want a career in TEFL. The CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is the world’s most widely-recognised qualification for teaching English, awarded by Cambridge Assessment English — part of the University of Cambridge.

It is highly regarded globally by organisations that employ English language teachers. With a CELTA, you can start a life-changing career helping students learn English, and open the door to a world of opportunities — whether you want to teach abroad, online, or in your home country.

What you’ll learn

The CELTA course is intensive, practical, and built around real teaching experience from day one. You’ll develop the core skills you need to plan and deliver effective English lessons to adult learners, including:

  • Lesson planning and classroom management
  • Teaching grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation
  • Developing learners’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills
  • Adapting materials and resources for different levels
  • Assessing learner progress and giving constructive feedback
  • Reflective teaching practice and continuous improvement

Course structure

The CELTA combines input sessions, guided lesson planning, observed teaching practice, and written assignments. Across the course you will:

  • Complete 6 hours of assessed teaching practice with real English language students at different levels
  • Observe experienced teachers in live classes
  • Submit 4 written assignments covering language analysis, learner needs, classroom skills, and lessons from the classroom
  • Receive detailed feedback from qualified Cambridge-approved tutors after every teaching slot

Who is this course for?

The CELTA is designed for anyone who wants to start teaching English as a foreign language, including:

  • Career-changers looking to enter the TEFL industry
  • Recent graduates wanting an internationally recognised teaching qualification
  • Practising teachers who want a formal qualification to validate their experience
  • Anyone planning to teach English abroad or online
