Erasmus+ Courses for Language Teachers

If you’re a teacher or school staff member in an eligible EU or EEA country, Erasmus+ funding can cover the cost of professional development through an approved provider.

International House is an approved Erasmus+ provider. That means your school or organisation can apply for Erasmus+ funding and use it to send staff on IH teacher development courses, without the cost coming out of your own pocket.

What is Erasmus+?

Erasmus+ is the EU’s programme for education, training, youth, and sport.

The Key Action 1 strand supports the mobility of school staff, including language teachers, for professional development abroad and through approved online providers.

Funding is applied for by your school or organisation, not by individuals. If your school receives a grant, you can be nominated to attend approved courses as part of your professional development plan.

Who can access Erasmus+ funding?

Teachers and staff at schools in EU member states

Staff at educational organisations in EEA countries and countries associated with the Erasmus+ programme

Participants nominated by an organisation that has successfully applied for an Erasmus+ grant

Eligibility rules change annually.

Check the latest guidelines with your national Erasmus+ agency or contact your school’s Erasmus+ coordinator.

IH Erasmus+ courses

The following courses are approved for Erasmus+ funding through International House. Each is designed for working language teachers and school staff.

Motivation in the 21st Century Classroom

A practical course examining what motivates today’s language learners, and how teachers can design lessons, build classroom culture, and give feedback in ways that sustain engagement. Draws on current research and classroom-tested strategies.

Student-Centred Classroom

Moving the teacher away from the front and the students toward active participation. This course covers lesson design, task frameworks, peer learning structures, and how to manage a classroom where students do most of the talking.

How to apply for Erasmus+ funding

Erasmus+ funding is awarded to institutions, not individuals. The application process runs through your national Erasmus+ agency and your school or organisation.

Your school or organisation applies for an Erasmus+ Key Action 1 grant through your national agency

If awarded, your school allocates the grant to staff professional development activities

You are nominated by your school to attend an approved course

You complete the course and submit a report to your school for their Erasmus+ records

Lead time matters. Erasmus+ grant applications typically open months before the funding period begins. If you want to attend an IH course in the next academic year, start the conversation with your school coordinator now.
